Training for electricity staff

Rajamahendravaram: Municipal commissioner V Vijayarama Raju said that electricity staff should join power saving movement using LED bulbs for streetlighting. He inaugurated Street Light National Programme organised by National Power Training Institute, Bengaluru, Energy Efficiency Services Ltd. 


(EESL), New Delhi,  along with municipal corporation, on Thursday.The three-day Street Light National Programme on ‘Operation and maintenance of street lights” is being held to create awareness among the persons engaged in installation, operation and maintenance of LED streetlights at Rajamahendravaram.


Speaking on the occasion, the commissioner said that using of LED should be part of every household and electricity staff should take up a drive to motivate the people in this direction.He said that RMC (Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation) had already done streetlighting with LED in many places and intend to do even in slums in next few months. 


He recalled that under Ujwala scheme, the Centre and the state governments had supplied LED bulbs on subsidy and it is the responsibility of electricity staff to operate and maintain those bulbs in all individual houses, particularly in industrial sector.He suggested use of technology in operating LED bulbs, particularly streetlight operation and its timings.


He pointed out that using LED bulbs in high mast lights and GPS system to on and off the lights are some of the changes that they had introduced in the city. APTransco chief engineer K Praveen Kumar said that there was a need for using solar power to reduce the demand for power from gas, thermal and water. He said that future is going to be nuclear power. Officials from Transco, NPTI and EESL also participated.
