HYDERABAD : Special Chief Secretary (Planning) of Telangana government, BP Acharya on Saturday spoke about the ‘KG to PG’ education scheme promised by Telangana government which has not yet seen light of the day.

He said that Anganwdi centres in state will be converted to Kindergarten and Anganwadi workers will be called Anganwadi teachers.

Apart from this he said that Telangana government has started more than 300 residential schools across state which will take care of students from class 6 and above. He said that the government is now planning for primary schools linking the Anganwadi KG schools to residential schools, which is presently the hurdle for complete implementation of KG to PG scheme.

Speaking at the first annual conference of Telangana Economic Association held at Centre for Economic and Social Studies (CESS), Acharya said that every district in the state will soon have ‘Knowledge and Information Centre’ which will help district collectors in better planning and implementation of policies.

These centres will have data compiled from the Telangana Household Survey conducted in 2014 and data gathered from other such surveys and studies conducted by the Telangana government.

Head of Centre for Telangana Studies, Gautam Pingle, speaking at the event, said that the demand for statehood of Telangana was a result of “short term, ill-intentioned and narrow minded attitude of the Andhra ruling elite” resulting in the continued exploitation of established tax capacity in Telangana, the resources generated through which were diverted to fund deficits in Andhra Pradesh.
