GUNTUR : In the wake of release of a notification to acquire 565.83 acres of land from 602 farmers at Penumaka in Tadepalli mandal for the development of capital city Amaravati under the Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, YSR Congress MLA Alla Rama Krishna Reddy visited the village on Friday.

As many as 902 families will be affected due to acquisition of land in the village. He resented the move to acquire fertile agricultural land from farmers against their wish.

The farmers of Penumaka are reluctant to give their lands to the State government for the capital city development under the Land Pooling Scheme. They are also opposing the acquisition of land under the Land Acquisition Act, 2013.

The MLA who worked in vegetable and turmeric fields at Penumaka and Yerrabalem villages as part of his protest against land acquistion,  had lunch with farmers and farm workers.

Speaking on the occasion, the MLA of Mangalagiri said: “Farmers of Penumaka will continue their fight against the ‘forcible’ acquisition of their lands. They will file a petition in court on Monday against acquisition of their lands.”

He flayed the Telugu Desam government for issuing a notification for acquisition of land from farmers despite maintaining that it would not resort to acquire lands from those who are against it.
