Water Resources Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao offered prayers at the Kanaka Durga temple here on Sunday to invoke the blessings of the goddess for the smooth completion of the Polavaram project.

A large number of women, including ZP chairperson Gadde Anuradha, offered ‘bonalu’ on the occasion.

Addressing the media later, Mr. Rao said the State government was sincerely implementing the mega multi-purpose project, but some forces inimical to it were creating obstacles.

The government, he asserted, was committed to giving water through gravity by 2019, and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was giving his personal best for the accomplishment of the task. No other national project was progressing at such a rapid pace, the Minister claimed.

Mr. Rao said, by completing the construction of the diaphragm wall, the government reached a major milestone, and engineers were striving to break the records that Burj Khalifa in Dubai and Three Gorges Dam in China had set in the quantum of concrete works done in a single day.
