Political parties are aiming for one-upmanship, say victims

AgriGold Customers’ and Agents’ Welfare Association president Muppalla Nageswara Rao on Saturday expressed anguish over the behaviour of both the ruling and the Opposition parties for aiming to score brownie points over the AgriGold issue on the floor of the Assembly.

Speaking to mediapersons, he said both the parties were trying to take the credit for initiating a solution to the problem, while the credit must go to all those who supported the cause right from its genesis. “While lakhs of customers are clueless about their hard-earned money, the leading political parties are aiming for one-upmanship,” he bemoaned.

Mr. Rao said the association was thankful to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for making a speech on the floor of the Assembly to solve the issue.

“But he ought to have done it two years ago when we pleaded with him to solve the issue, as dozens of customers were committing suicide,” he pointed out.

He said the ruling party was citing the court orders and neglected the issue at the preliminary stage.

“It [the State government] was forced to take up the issue only when the public outcry grew louder”.

Mr. Rao said the association members met YSR Congress Party chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, who did not show any urgency in taking up the issue.

He said the issue was far from over as only promises had been made and the association would be alert and fight till the last rupee was paid to the customer.

Mr. Rao found fault with the YSRCP chief for making a statement that he would solve the issue once he came to power after two years. “Should the lakhs of customers wait for another two years? This is ridiculous,” he said.

                                                         Gowtham’s role

AgriGold Customers’ & Agents’ Welfare Association secretary Tirupati Rao on Saturday said YSR Congress Party chief Jagan Mohan Reddy turned silent when the issue of his partyman P. Gowtham Reddy buying 36 acres in Krishna district was brought to his notice.

“He did not say a word when we showed him the documents pertaining to AgriGold property bought in the name P. Uttam Kumar Reddy by his father P. Gowtham Reddy,” he said.

He even exhibited the sale deed to media persons. He said while the YSRCP was busy exposing Minister for Agriculture P. Pulla Rao’s alleged involvement in the purchase of 14 acre in Prakasam district, it was silent on the land purchased by Gowtham Reddy.
