Proceeds to Paikapadu in Vizianagaram district to resume padayatra

YSRCP cadres accorded a rousing reception to their party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on his arrival here on Sunday evening to resume his Praja Sankalpa Yatra, which he had suspended following a knife attack on him at the airport here on October 25.

Hundreds of party workers raised slogans in support of Mr. Jagan immediately after his arrival at the airport.

Mr. Jagan went in a large cavalcade of vehicles to Paikapadu village in Makkuva mandal of Vizianagaram district to resume the yatra from Monday. Unprecedented security was in place in and around the airport.

The YSRCP president was accompanied by Rajampet MP P.V. Midhun Reddy and Chandragiri MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy from Hyderabad. They were received, among others, by party constituency coordinators and senior leaders Malla Vijaya Prasad, Tynala Vijaya Kumar, M.V.N. Satyanarayana, and Vamsi Srinivasa Yadav.

The attack on Mr. Reddy by J. Srinivasa Rao, a waiter at the restaurant located in the airport, raged into a controversy with the TDP terming it as an attempt to gain cheap publicity and the YSRCP alleging the involvement of the Chief Minister. Mr. Reddy, who said he had no confidence in the State police, approached the High Court seeking a direction to the government to entrust the probe to an independent agency.

The government constituted a Special Investigation Team before which Mr. Jagan refused to depose.

The accused had shocked everyone at the VIP Lounge in the airport when he whipped out a knife used in rooster fights and stabbed Mr. Jagan on his left arm. The accused is now in judicial remand.
